Communicable Disease Prevention Framework

As of May 1, 2022, UBC is transitioning from COVID-19 Safety Plans to a Communicable Disease Prevention Framework in alignment with the BC Centre for Disease ControlWorkSafeBC, and Public Health Guidance for Post-Secondary Institutions. This means the university will replace the seven institutional plans, with a Communicable Disease Prevention Framework to cover all UBC activities.

The Communicable Disease Prevention Framework is not meant to replace existing communicable disease exposure control plans in workplaces that require them (Please refer to parts 5.2 and 6.33 to 6.40 of WorkSafeBC’s Occupational Health & Safety Regulations).

Events and Gatherings

All organized gatherings and events at UBC must adhere to UBC Campus Rules and meet the requirements of the relevant Provincial Health Orders (PHO) that are current at the time of the event.

  • Follow UBC Campus Rules
  • Masks required in all indoor public spaces. UBC will require masks to be worn in public indoor spaces on both campuses, until the end of the 2022 Summer Session on June 30, 2022.
  • Provincial proof of vaccination requirement for events, services or businesses have been lifted as of April 8, 2022. Individual businesses, events organizers or certain non-essential or discretionary activities on UBC Premises may require participants over 12 years of age to provide proof of vaccination. All persons required by UBC representatives to provide proof of vaccination must do so if they wish to participate in such activities. It’s important that we respect the choices of people, businesses and one another. For more information, please visit the provincial proof of vaccination page.
  • Other restrictions still in effect can be found on the Province-Wide Restrictions webpage.

For outdoor events, please follow the event application process on the Campus & Community Planning website.

If you have an event (indoor or outdoor) planned with an in-person component, and if you have any questions or are unsure of associated processes, please contact

  • Employees have been communicated any changes to Provincial Orders or advice
  • Safe work procedures still being used have been updated and communicated to reflect current best practices and controls
  • Changes to, or new safe work procedures have been sent to the relevant Joint Occupational Health & Safety Committee for their review
  • Visitors or guests understand expectations before arriving at the workplace
