The Chemical Safety Program incorporates the entire lifecycle of the chemical beginning with purchasing and ending with disposal. The aim is to ensure chemicals are used and handled properly to prevent injury, illness, disease, fire, explosions or property damage.

When chemicals are purchased, the shipment must follow the requirements of Transport Canada, other international, federal and provincial regulators and UBC RMS.
WHMIS 1988 is being updated to incorporate the GHS of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals and is now being referred to as WHMIS 2015.
