Safety & Risk Services’ Emergency Management hosted Rapid Damage Assessment Drill

On June 16, 2022, Safety & Risk Services’ Emergency Management held a drill for UBC staff who had completed BC Housing’s Rapid Damage Assessment (RDA) and Coordination of Damage Assessment (CDA) training, in partnership with partners at BC Housing. The drill was an opportunity to conduct in-person training that allowed attendees to participate in a real-world demonstration of how the RDA process would be conducted at UBC.

36 staff members across UBC were put through their paces in conducting realistic damage assessments on several campus buildings to determine if these buildings would be safe to occupy after an earthquake. They also had the opportunity to practice collaborative decision-making skills in a fast-paced team setting and even got to practice their best radio voice when communicating with the RDA Coordination Post – 10-4!

The event was a huge success with participants eager to progress to more challenging exercises in the future.
