First Aid Features: Kitchen Slip

Shortly after the expanded Occupational First Aid Program was launched, an employee in one of UBC’s many kitchens slipped on food debris and injured their back.

The Kitchen Supervisor promptly called 2-4444, enlisting the help of the UBC Occupational First Aid team, who arrived on scene in less than 10 minutes.

Despite breakfast being in full swing in the busy kitchen, the team were able to quickly and discretely assess the patient’s injuries and transport them to the Urgent Care Centre at UBC Hospital, where they could receive the treatment they needed. They also followed up with the employee’s supervisor the following day to check if any aftercare was needed.

Do you know what you would do if a member of your team was injured? Head to the Occupational First Aid page to find out.
