Update: Public Health Officer order for COVID-19

On July 26, 2024, Dr. Bonnie Henry issued an order to end the public health emergency for COVID-19 and rescinded all related Provincial Health Officer (PHO) orders.

Please update any UBC materials referencing the PHO and properly retain or destroy COVID-19 vaccination status records. For information on active communicable disease, please visit Communicable Disease Prevention Framework.

COVID-19 vaccination status records

As part of this order, COVID-19 vaccination status records must be retained or destroyed in accordance with UBC’s Records Management Policy (GA4), UBC’s Records Retention Schedules, and the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA). If you have these records, please:

  1. Retain for one year any dispute or incident records related to COVID-19 vaccination status. For example, records related to an individual being refused a position or entry to a care location. Destroy after one year.
  2. Destroy all other general COVID-19 vaccination records of all UBC members, including incoming students/staff/faculty.

If you have any questions, contact the Records Manager at records.management@ubc.ca or the Office of the University Counsel at university.counsel@ubc.ca.

At care locations, UBC is no longer required to:

  1. Request valid proof of (COVID-19) vaccination or exemption;
  2. Keep a record of vaccination status;
  3. Not permit a UBC member who does not provide valid proof of vaccination or exemption to enter care locations identified in the PHO Order for work/learning; and
  4. Disclose UBC members’ vaccination status when requested by PHO or Medical Health Officer.
