Sam Stephens transitions into permanent role as Director, Campus Security in Safety & Risk Services

In June 2022, Sam stepped into the role as Interim Director, Campus Security and has been responsible for leading the Campus Security team and ensuring that we continue to provide great service to keep the campus community safe and secure.

Over the past few months, Sam has been a driving force in finding opportunities to build a stronger foundation for our Campus Security teams. He has identified key focus areas to help support and improve the teams’ day-to-day work, and to uphold our commitments of aligning our programs to the needs of the campus community. His extensive experience in leading projects and teams within Compliance, Security, and Risk Management roles in the public sector will make him a valuable leader to the Campus Security team.

Prior to joining UBC, Sam has worked within unique industries such as CBSA, Canadian Coast Guard, BC Lottery Corporation and most recently with the City of Vancouver. He also holds a Masters of Enterprise Risk Management from Boston University, as well as multiple industry designations, and has a passion for continued learning and development.

Outside of the workplace, he is usually spending time with his three kids, coaching lacrosse (Go Bellies!), or riding his bike.
