New Noise Awareness course available for workers at risk of hazardous noise exposure

Safety & Risk Services (SRS) recently created a new online course on Noise Awareness available on UBC Workplace Learning.

In British Columbia, the allowable noise limit is 85 dBA over an eight-hour period and 140 dBC peak sound. As a general guideline, if you are within 1 meter of another person and need to shout to be heard, the noise level may be considered high.

Designed for supervisors and workers that are at risk of hazardous noise exposure, this online, self-paced course will:

  • Increase your awareness of the risk factors and associated health effects related to hazardous noise exposure
  • Identify controls to protect against overexposure to hazardous noise levels
  • Introduce you to audiometric testing

For more information about noise hazards, visit the Noise Hazards page of the SRS website or contact Sonam Uppal, Occupational Hygiene Advisor.
