Get ready to ShakeOut

This October, practice the Great BC Shakeout, an annual province-wide earthquake drill for everyone to practice how to protect themselves and to be better prepared in the event of an earthquake. The drill is a timely reminder for UBC and individuals to review and update emergency preparedness plans and supplies, and practice what to do should an earthquake strike. We all have a role in protecting ourselves and making our campus safe.

Quake Cottage Earthquake Simulator

October 17, University Commons
Quake Cottage Canada is back this year! Faculty, staff, and students are invited to ride the earthquake simulator to experience what it’s like to go through a major earthquake. The Quake Cottage will be set-up at University Commons, outside the AMS Student Nest from 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m on October 17.

Get ready to ShakeOut

October 17, 10:17 a.m.
Participate in the 2018 Great British Columbia ShakeOut earthquake drill by practicing DROP, COVER, HOLD ON. Wait for the shaking to stop and count to 60 to allow time for debris to fall, before moving. If you’re outside, stay outside. If you’re inside, stay inside, unless there is a fire or the building is in danger of collapsing. If you’re in a moving vehicle, stop in a clear area, away from falling debris, and stay inside the vehicle. ShakeOut BC is a timely annual reminder for everyone to learn the risks, get prepared, and make a plan in the event of an earthquake.

San Andreas Movie Screening

October 17, 12:30 p.m.
To help raise awareness for the threats posed by seismic activity, SRS will be screening the earthquake movie San Andreas in The Nest on the day of ShakeOut. Witness first-hand Hollywood’s over-the-top seismic activity special effects over a bowl of popcorn? You’ll also find out a little more about emergency management at UBC in a brief presentation before the movie.
