Environment
Within the context of a campus Environmental Management System, which aims to continually improve the University’s environmental performance, the Environmental Protection team provides University students, faculty, and staff with technical guidance and operational service to minimize the environmental impact of their activities and operations. Environmental Protection supports university departments seeking to meet their environmental obligations as prescribed by UBC Policy SC4 – Environmental Protection Compliance.
Regulatory compliance programs include hazardous waste management, air, and storm water quality, drinking water quality, spill prevention, remediation, and other pollution prevention areas. Under these programs, departments are routinely supported in policy or Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) development, regulatory interpretation, and the integration of industry best practices into daily processes, as well as provided with detailed operational reviews utilizing impact assessments, audits, or inspections to gauge risk-levels and performance.
Environmental Protection staff also compile and submit environmental compliance reports to various agencies at the municipal, provincial and federal level.
