Insurance for UBC students participating in Practicum/Clinical Placements in the Northwest Territories (Optional Coverage)

Students completing the practicum portion of their studies in the Northwest Territories are NOT covered by Workers’ Safety & Compensation Commission (WSCC) if they experience work related illness or injury while doing their practicum. Therefore, departments sending practicum/clinical placements to the Northwest Territories may obtain optional WSCC coverage for their students.

How to obtain WSCC practicum/clinical placement insurance for UBC students in the Northwest Territories?

      • To obtain coverage, the department must complete the following survey prior to the start of the placement
      • The following information will be needed in order to complete the registration
        • Name of academic program
        • Legal name of students
        • Start date of placement
        • End date of placement
        • Total number of days worked
        • Placement institution name
        • Placement institution address
        • Department contact and email address

How to obtain a WSCC clearance certificate for practicum/clinical placement insurance for UBC students in the Northwest Territories?

      • If a practicum/clinical placement student needs to obtain a clearance certificate, please contact Safety & Risk Services

How to make a claim under practicum/clinical placement insurance for UBC students in the Northwest Territories?

      • If a practicum/clinical placement student has seen a doctor or has missed time from work as a result of a work related injury/illness, a claim must be filed with WSCC
      • Both the student and his/her supervisor must complete this online report
