Health & Safety: Understanding the risk of fatigue at work 

Fatigue in the workplace has been recognized as a major cause of accidents. In fact, an Australian study found that after being awake for 17 hours straight, a person's reaction times can be just as impaired as someone with a blood alcohol content of 0.05 percent. 

Updated information on COVID-19

Safety & Risk Services has updated the COVID-19 information to reflect the recent guidance and direction around continuity planning, contact tracing, and mask recommendations from the Provincial Health Officer (PHO), BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC), and WorkSafeBC.

Celebrating promotions within the newly renamed division – Occupational Health and Safety, Safety & Risk Services

As mentioned in last month's announcement, Safety & Risk Services is making changes to the reporting structures to strengthen alignment with the university and VPFO's strategic priorities. Janet Hankins has been promoted to Manager – Research Compliance and Occupational Hygiene, Paul Gill to Manager, Health & Safety Partnerships, and Paul Nakagawa to Manager – Safety Program Management and Systems.

Last pick-ups from Environment Services Facilities will be on December 16

The Environmental Services Facilities (ESF) will be closed starting December 20, 2021 until January 4, 2022. The last day of pick-ups from academic departments will be December 16. For questions or concerns, please contact your ESF technicians before December 20.
